Position Overview
The Energy Campaign Specialist (Specialist) will work to advance our efforts to make public lands part of the climate solution through powerful coalition building and the implementation of strategic advocacy campaigns. This role will take a lead in TWS’ work to protect public lands from drilling and mining while supporting a just economic transition for communities, away from fossil fuel extraction and towards clean energy.
The Specialist will assist in the development and implementation of campaigns designed to further our work to protect public lands across the country from expanding oil and gas and mining development and to influence federal policies governing energy development on public lands. This work includes implementing strategic campaign tactics like opinion media, sign on letters working to build decision maker support and organizing events to demonstrate public support. This is a highly collaborative role that involves quick turnaround and attention to detail to help ensure campaign needs are met. Reporting to the Director for Climate Policy Advocacy, this position works as part of a cross functional energy and mining focused team with other TWS staff representing communications, regional field offices, government relations, legal experts, and science.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
· Assist with development and lead the implementation of priority campaigns, helping to develop and leading deployment of strategies and tactics through shared campaign plans
· Lead in the coordination of campaigns, including logistics of calls and meetings, serving as a coordinator on key bodies of work for the energy and mining team
· Support and engage with coalitions to make shared progress towards protecting public lands from oil and gas and mining, while centering the communities most impacted
· Work closely with TWS colleagues in Government Relations, External Affairs, and other business units to support an internal team including tracking and monitoring activities and progress of the campaign
· Identify and engage new and non-traditional constituencies in support of campaign objectives, and represent TWS and its mission in building authentic relationships with partner organizations
· In coordination with colleagues, serve as a point of contact where appropriate for external partners by leading or attending calls, meetings, and trainings
· Assist in the research and production of advocacy materials and products including but not limited to fact sheets, reports, story maps, issue briefs and web content
· Contribute to development and delivery of impactful messages and communications strategies through products like opinion editorials, letters to the editor and more
· Support the work of local partners and TWS regional staff by developing materials and presentations, facilitating workshops on issues and effective advocacy
· Adhere to all policies and procedures set forth by TWS (including, but not limited to, finance, human resources and legal) to maintain a compliant and efficient work environment.
· Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will possess most or all of the following qualifications:
· Minimum 3 years relevant experience supporting electoral or issue advocacy campaigns
· Demonstrated ability to build relationships with and actively listen to partners and community members
· Experience participating in and leading coalition efforts and engaging a diverse range of partners
· Proven ability to perform under pressure and with tight deadlines
· Detail oriented, with strong organizational and time management skills
· Track record of working successfully in teams representing a rich mix of talent, backgrounds, and perspectives
· Excellent written and verbal communications skills
· Proven ability to take initiative, develop ideas and see them through implementation
· Knowledge of congressional legislative process, land management agencies, public lands, climate or conservation policy is preferred
· Willingness to travel for short durations
